Finding Commonality
Q: As an openly Christian performer, do you feel a responsibility toward the Christian community?
A: I do feel a huge responsibility for young people out there who might be dealing with the same issues. When I was younger, there were not that many people around, especially males, that were positive Christian role models. I want kids to see someone like me and think, "Hey, I can rock out to Pearl Jam and be a regular person and still be Christian."
Q: Does it bother you that people are so obsessed with labels? Would you rather known as a Christian singer or simply a singer?
A: You know, it's funny, because labels can be so misleading. I do get a little annoyed sometimes, when I read "Christian" in front of my job description, as though that makes a difference musically. I'm talking about emotions and relationships in my songs, and everybody has those, and everyone can relate. Sure, there's some people who may be uncomfortable and might not want to see me because they think, "Oh, he'll only talk about Christian things!" Then there are others who might come to see me because they think I'm only going to talk about Christian things. I'm not here to tell anyone to be Christian. I want you to accept me the way I accept you. That's all.
If you're from the area &/or read the PNJ you may recognize the above. I took it from an interview w/a local artist that is set to perform here next week. You may notice something strangely amiss tho, especially if you're really intuitive.
This is the way that I read the article & pictured it in my mind...not how it actually went. The point of contention I have is the same when looking for acceptence beyond labels regardless of the point of view. I hope that you're seated.
This ran friday & was entitled 'NO LABELS ALLOWED'. It's not about a Christian artist but a gay 1 getting ready to perform @ Come Out Pensacola! Just insert the original word gay everywhere that you see the word Christian in the above.
Sound all that different to you?

try not to miss the point...commonality.
we are called christian. and it used to mean something different. now it means inclusiveness and accomadation. we accomadate those who need truth with 3 points to have a better life with Jesus. not much transformation goin on there. not much complete sacrifice. just better living through compromise.
the church is full of people who are addicted to porn, adulterers and people who live immoral lives. but we spend more time worring what the queers are doing than cleaning our own house.
besides, we got the name from non believers who never met Jesus.
sad to say & see such folks w/such zeal miss the point by so much...
point of the post is this...
labels, when used to catergorize a mass majority, do a poor job of describing individuals & tend to leave some w/an erroneous idea that the ideals of the whole surplant those on which originally set them apart...
not only does the label get used even when it wanders from the original intent, it also begins to carry the weight of the wrongly-headed majority due to it being shoved on said individual, thus forcing some to challenge the lazily made connection...
at no point, NO POINT, was it said that christianity was on par w/homosexuality as a lifestyle choice or anything else...
it struggles however may be very similar when individuals are seen to carry the load of their particular genre' on their back...
alright timmy...
do this 1 for good ol' christianity...
no, no, no...
do this for Christ & Him alone...
there is a difference...
the post also attempts to challenge the idea that inanimate objects may fall under that particular label or not...
hey, jeff...
pass me the christian mayo would ya'?
i need it for the secular bread...
silly right...?
anbody see the point yet?
maybe in trying to see where we can struggle in similar ways from 1 people group to the next, we are more open to the work that He would have us to do to reach that poor wretched sinner that's oh so unlike us...
if our 1st approach is to bring out & accentuate our differences i'm afraid that we've got no chance to 'love the sinner & hate the sin'...
could this be transformational thinking...?
i've just got to think so...
if you still don't agree, that's fine...
i love you all the same & won't resort to questioning your heart, motives, love for Christ or love for a lost world w/out Him...
i just wish that you'd be able to do the same...
It has been interesting following the blogs on this website over the past few months. You talk about your concern for those who are without Christ and how to be in a better relationship with God. Yet it seems that your missions is to fix the church to suit our satisfaction and not to reach the lost. Christian's are not the enemy yet there is almost an arrogant hostility toward anyone who doesn't agree with you or your followers.
I would like to know how many churches you have been able to fix through this method and more importantly have you even lead the first person to a life saving realtionship with Jesus Christ whether they are in church or not is not the issue. If not then perhaps your motives for this website are not to glorify God, but rather to elevate self.
in case you've missed it & by your post you obviously have...
please regard the following:
Please feel free to patronize, ridicule or join me in the search for genuine authenticity in what is hopefully developing into a truly transparent walk.
i wrote those words august '04 & meant them & still do...
this site is not about the things that you assume that they are about because you've not taken the time to read & think critically about the things posted here...
this particular portion of the site is about allowing people inside my own personal monologue & inviting them to journey w/me...
i've attacked none that disagree w/the things that i think about & post here & quite to the contrary, i welcome them...
i love to hear opposing views even & especially when they're the exact opposite of mine...
i've replied to those earnestly seeking discussion w/all the humility that i can muster, inspite of their very personal attacks to my motives & heart...
this site boasts of no followers or conversions, but hopefully of those that have left inspired or at the very least made to think for themselves...
if many came to Christ or were followers of this, i would negate all of that by telling of them to you in this way...
think about it...
your very post & others like them are more than enough proof that the body of Christ needs more of this instead of less...
we are certainly very underequiped in the area of communication as this shows & the only way out of this mess is to patiently & honestly attempt to find congruency as believers rather than glorify differences...
i've never ascribed to fix any church & quite frankly at am a loss as to where that comment originates...
the main things that i've got problems with that reside in the church reside in my own person first & foremost...
i can only attempt to allow my Saviour the pleasure & glory of fixing me...
if this reply does nothing for you, than i am truly sorry...
i'm also afraid that you don't know me, anything about me nor my intentions...
please do yourself a big favor & refrain from reading texts that you find so offensive...
you'll only be doing yourself a favor...
peace
